(TSX VENTURE:ZMS)(FRANKFURT:W1I) today announced that it has completed the development of a break-through Green Fiber Laser that operates in all known wavelengths of the green spectral range. The company has filed a patent application with the U.S. Patent Office covering the unique intellectual property related to the Green Fiber Laser.

Limited production will begin immediately, with ramp up to large scale manufacture expected to begin in January 2008. Applications for the Green Fiber Laser series include replacement of existing Ion Gas and DPSS (diode pumped solid state) lasers used in both industrial and scientific applications as well as new technological niches based on the advantages of Zecotek's fiber laser system. Zecotek has initiated sales discussions with a number of potential customers in different industries ranging from bio-instrumentation (DNA sequencing, flow cytometry, scanning laser microscopy); medicine (ophthalmology, dermatology, urology), printing and imaging; material processing (laser writing, lithography and sintering); and fundamental research (spectroscopy, fluorescent analysis). The new laser series performs exceptionally well in existing operating wavelengths: 515, 521, 529, 531, 532 nm. But, due to proprietary functionality, Zecotek has extended the operating range to include 532-560 nm offering new opportunities in advanced applications.
Not only are fiber lasers more power-efficient, more compact, deliver higher power with high-quality beam relative to existing solid state lasers, but they also require less time to service and interface more easily with optical fiber channels. The advantages of fiber lasers have been proven in the infrared spectral region and now with the introduction of Zecotek's new series, these advantages have been extended to a wide, green spectral range. In contrast to the "main-stream" developments based on complicated laser design, Zecotek's fiber lasers are much more reliable and more cost effective solutions based on intra-cavity doubling systems with unique technical parameters. Additional options, such as multi-wavelength, tuneability and narrow-band outputs will also be available to end-users.
